A New Program Director

A New Program Director

Mikayla Lillibridge is the new Program Director here at 107.7 The Bronc, and I got the pleasure of getting to talk to her about this summer’s programming. Every summer, the music director is tasked with their first bigproject of many creating not one, but two summer-long themes for both stations that start Memorial Day weekend and last until Labor Day weekend. They are challenged to be creative, unique, and something

107.7 hasn’t seen before. Mikayla and her team, composed of Olivia Parker and Jack Jock, came up with Surf Rock Summer and Psychedelic Summer for this year’s summer programming.

SURF ROCK SUMMER On 107.7 The Bronc Retro

Surf Rock Summer is all things sand, sun, and an abundance of fun! Surf Rock Summer is surfing you with all the beach hits such as “Good Vibrations” by The Beach Boys, “Miserlou” by Dick Dale, and the Surfaris!

Mikayla said the inspiration for Surf Rock Summer came from a popular movie, “I came up with Surf Rock Summer because I had just watched “Pulp Fiction”, and a lot of the music from the movie is surf rock music. I also was sent this song called “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas, there is a sample of a Dick Dale song in it, which I love. So I was like this is such a genre that is a time capsule of the pre- 21st century which is getting a bit of a resurgence. I wanted something, so obvious but so different.”

PSYCHEDELIC SUMMER On 107.7 The Bronc

Psychedelic Summer is full of trips and hallucinations, which are home to many of our listener’s favorite songs, such as “Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles, “Dreams Tonite” by Alvvays, and “Magenta Mountain” by King Gizzard.

Regarding the programming for 107.7 WRRC Mikayla was stuck, bouncing between many different ideas but ultimately chose psychedelic because, “Psychedelic Summer is all about being outside the box-this was the goal for the summer programming in general. I wanted something crazy, something fun, and I wanted something that the music directors would have a lot of fun working on as well. I wanted to use alliteration, I was going to do summer sun or surfing summer, and I also wanted the imaging to be fun and colorful. After looking at it last year, I wanted to see how I could get even more creative with it.”
