Are there any J-E-T-S fans out there?

The New York Jets are gearing up for their 2024 season and Beyond the Mic had the chance to sit down and chat with 107.7 The Bronc’s very own, José Rey, the mastermind behind the NFL team’s creative marketing.

Rey assumed the position as the team’s Senior Creative Director this July, after a lengthy yet rewarding amount of dedication towards the team since his internship in 2010. “I interviewed, went through the process, and ended up working here as a seasonal for one season and then was hired on full time,” exclaimed Rey. “It’s unique in the overall workforce…it’s just kind of commonplace now as this is really such a special place,” he added. From an intern to an assistant, coordinator, and now residing at the top of his department, Rey proves that with determination, loyalty, and dedication there’s no limit to his creative mind.

As for the creative duties of this Senior Director, Rey had much to say about how rewarding his role truly is within the company. “On the creative side, you get to work on a ton of different projects that are super visible,” said Rey. “It’s any designer’s dream…ultimately your work is showcased on the biggest stage in front of a million people,” he added.

From Rey’s days at the station to otherwise now on the field, he’s remained extremely dedicated to the hustle. As for his time at The Bronc, he was constantly learning how to tackle a myriad of duties that later promoted his success in the workforce. “When you work on a club or have responsibilities in college…you have to manage people’s schedules, problem solve, stay organized, get experience… it’s real-world experience for when you take the next step into the workforce,” added the former 107.7 The Bronc Student General Manager and former photographer of The Rider News.

Rey was a part of none other than the early days of the quintessential executive staff at the station, “We transitioned the radio station over…from a run it by the seed of your pants organization to something where we brought in sponsorships, sweepstakes, started organizing around, making it more of a business,” he added. Without these early marketing efforts made by students, we wouldn’t have reached the heights we have today alongside our General Manager, John Mozes who encouraged the likes of Jose and the other participants of Alumni in Action to reach for the stars.

“You don’t always need to know everything about a business… but you kind of immerse yourself in the business…you learn you’re open and receptive,” added Rey, for it’s not about your knowledge within a singular field but your success is derived from one’s ability to absorb new information with an open mind.

As for the future of Rey’s career, there are many exciting aspirations he has yet to conquer. “We are undergoing a pretty big rebrand this year…we’ve changed our uniforms, logos, a lot of big projects for us this year,” said Rey. “Continuing to develop as a designer, creative director, continuing to kind of grow new talent around us…give new people an opportunity to showcase their work,” he finalized.

You never know, you could be the next Rider student hitting the major league fields alongside a familiar face.
Beyond the Mic is immensely thankful to Jose Rey for his student contributions to The Bronc and for his continued advice throughout this interview. Go Jets!
