Bella’s Deeper Look:

Bella has always been the type to not stick to just one genre of music; She loves anything that sounds good to her ears. You can find all sorts of stuff on her playlist from Rap to Electronic. Lately she has been listening to more Rap and R&B artists like Lucki, Earl Sweatshirt, Future, and Frank Ocean. Growing up, her parents introduced her to 80s and 90s hip-hop artists like Wu-Tang Clan, The Notorious B.I.G, 2Pac, and Nas, which she has been listening to since then. Despite growing up with hip-hop music, she loves discovering different types of music and often says “I can’t pick,” when asked what her favorite music genre is!

“Kno Ya Wong” by Schoolboy Q is such a classic Schoolboy Q song. I remember listening to it all the time while driving around in GTA V. The instrumental is absolutely amazing. The ending is just so smooth and perfect and Schoolboy Q just goes crazy on the song.

“Atlanta Zoo” by Gucci Mane has some of the craziest bass I have ever heard. How can you go wrong with some early 2010s Gucci Mane? He practically ran the Rap scene in the early 2010s, along with, of course Chief Keef. “Atlanta Zoo” is such a good song, super catchy, and goes extremely hard.

Ever since coming back form seeing Tyler, The Creator live, I have been listening to Paris Texas a lot more than before. Paris Texas is such an insanely good and underrated group. I love their music so much and have so many favorite songs by them. This week I decided to share some of those favorite; “girls like drugs”, “PANIC!!!”, and “NuWhip”.

“Caught Up” by Usher is THE RnB song from the 2000s. Okay, that may be a little exaggerated but it is just so good. The instrumental, Ushers voice, and the lyrics just blend together so perfectly.

Orion Sun is another artist I have ben slowly starting to get into. I first heard her songs a few years ago, but I still didn’t really know who she was. Now, that I am more familiar with her, I have really started to like her music. A few months ago I featured one of her songs on here, and here we are again. This week, I added her song “dirty dancer”. Her voice just goes so perfectly with the instrumental and the song has such a deep meaning. If you like this song, then I would suggest listening to her other stuff. She is very underrated.

I had recently found an album called “Faith Is A Rock” by MIKE, Wiki, and The Alchemist while looking through my Discover Weekly on Spotify. The first song I listened to was “Mayors A Cop”. Words cannot describe how good that song is. Hearing it for the first time felt magical. The whole entire album is perfection. Wiki and MIKE are so underrated and its insane because they’re so good.

I know I said that Caught up by Usher is THE 2000s RnB but I lied. It’s actually “Can’t Let You Go” by Fabolous. Now THAT is an RnB song. It is catchy, it is smooth, and the singing is just amazing. It is the epitome of a RnB love song and it is amazing.

Now listen, I know the title of this song might seem a little questionable, but “Lap Dance” by N.E.R.D is actually lowkey an activism song. It talks about general corruption in the government and stuff that we still see and hear on the news today, even though this song was released over 20 years ago. Its an amazing song and the guitar goes so hard.

RJ’s Deeper Look

Welcome to the first THEMED WEEK of the Music Director’s Playlist! Here are some of my favorite songs from last year. 2024 was one of the best years for music and I tried my best to get a wide variety of genres and artists for this week’s mix. We got small acts and some as large as Tyler, The Creator so I hope you enjoy this week’s selection. And as always this playlist is available on Apple Music and Spotify if you want to listen early.

Billy Joel is my favorite artist of all time, in fact I’m listening to his music as I write this. I will never forget him announcing this new single on my birthday last year. I was sitting in the theater to watch Godzilla: Minus One and opened instagram to see it was releasing the next week. Hopefully this means a new album is on the way but with a discography as stacked as his does he really need a new album?

I’ve been a fan of The Brook & The Bluff for years now. Their chill alt-rock jams have taken up many spaces on all of my playlists. This song is from their new EP This Could All Go Nowhere which really leans into their rock influences. Almost every song on there is a banger but the one I have selected for this week is Calling Cards which I believe was the lead single for the EP.

A defining memory of my sophomore year will always be waking up at 3:00 AM to meet up with my friends and listen to CHROMAKOPIA the second it dropped. We ended up relocating from a gazebo to a car because it was so freaking cold out! Sticky had all of us dancing and freaking out with all the features. It was an experience that will stay with me forever.

Over the summer I got a random recommendation from Apple Music to listen to the brand new single from Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge, Wine On Venus. I had no idea who Grace Bowers was but I listened anyway. THESE GUYS ARE THE REAL DEAL! Their music blends funk and blues in a way that is reminiscent of Kool & The Gang or KC and The Sunshine Band. This song however takes a slower pace and tells the story of Grace’s grandmother who would always say that when she dies she will be drinking Wine On Venus. The song is so powerful and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did the first time I listened to it.

Before I was the Music Director here at The Bronc I was the Production Director. When you listen to the station you may still hear a couple of my commercials and bumpers. But I would drive up to the station with my friend Owen Nelson over the summer and record these packages. These drives were long and we needed good music to listen to. That’s when we discovered Good Neighbours and their hit song Home. You have 100% heard this song. I was lucky enough to see them live over the summer and while this isn’t my favorite song by them it is certainly one of their best.

I have told stories of my being in Model UN on this blog before but the first time I was going to the UN building back in my Freshman year my friend, Adrienne Bishop, told me about this artist I had never heard of before named Maggie Rogers and her new album. Don’t Forget Me has been on heavy rotation since it was first recommended to me and the single, On & On & On has been a favorite track of mine. Thank you Adrienne!

Romance In Me by Nourished by Time is another case of Apple Music knowing me a bit too well. This song nearly made me cry the first time I listened to it. I beg of you to lay down on your bed and close your eyes the first time you listen to this song because it is an out of body experience!

Ok, real talk, I was hating on Magdalena Bay’s Imaginal Disc the first time I listened to it. But after giving it another shot I have to say that it SLAPS! Image is the single and my favorite song from the record! Please listen to the full thing and be better than me by giving it a fair chance.

brat summer part 2.

In Time (Echo Song) is a folk song from the band Cold Weather Company, their new album releases next month so if you like this be sure to check it out!
