107.7 The Bronc has acquired new Comrex broadcast equipment to help our sports broadcasting team and the station elevate our game in the college radio world!
In my last blog, I wrote that the new Comrex equipment will allow our talented Bronc broadcasters to be live on the field in order to more accurately report what’s happening.
If you don’t know how live broadcasting works, at The Bronc, we use the Comrex to connect to the station whenever we are on the road to be able to report what’s happening live on location from wherever we are with the same high quality studio sound.. However, for the first time in Bronc history, we won’t need to be in the booth watching the action from high above the field, now we will actually be on the field ourselves!
Why Is It Important?
This new technology will give a whole new perspective and DIMENSION to the world of sports reporting. We will be able to do live coach and player Interviews, and give in-depth injury reports on the spot! This will give students more experiential learning opportunities that just play-by-play or color commentary ! This also brings 107.7 The Bronc programming to the same level as CBS Sports, Fox Sports, Westwood One and more, as sideline reporting has become a big part of every broadcast.
This new technology will be used for all the sports broadcasted on 107.7 The Bronc and 107.7 The Bronc Retro, including high school football, Men’s and Women’s basketball, and high school baseball. HOWEVER, sports is not the only thing we will be using this technology for. Sports Director Lindsay Scarola ‘27 says, “This equipment will actually be used for any live event The Bronc does. [Rider Student] Top Chef, [The Philadelphia] Flower Show, Philly Auto Show, and more. It gives us a more well-rounded experience knowing how to talk about all these different things.”
A Cut Above The Rest
We actually were originally going to order this equipment for the Fall ‘25 season, but it wasn’t ready yet! But now it is! And we are using it throughout the football, basketball, and baseball seasons. This puts us a cut above other college radio stations and may be one of the reasons we were just nominated for our sixth National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Award for College Radio Station of the Year in seven years. The whole point of this is to grow the brand, but also grow our students’ resumes, so when they are out of college and pursuing their career goals, they are a cut above other contenders for the job as well.
107.7 The Bronc is always searching for ways to expand the student experience. And, that will continue to be our goal when Radiothon2 takes to the airwaves Spring 2027. We will once again use all the money we raise to upgrade our equipment, fine tune our programming, including shows like the award winning Wake Up Rider, and it is very exciting, because we have new toys to play with while we continue to break records and break boundaries!
The Comrex Fieldlink will be first used on Thursday, August 27, on WRRC-FM when Lawrence High School plays Lacey Township. And, again on Friday, August 28 when Rancocas Valley Regional High School travels to Ocean City, NJ for the battle of the beach. For more updates, keep up with The Bronc on Instagram!
