WE ARE THE BEST COLLEGE RADIO STATION IN THE COUNTRY!

WE ARE THE BEST COLLEGE RADIO STATION IN THE COUNTRY!

By: Lathan “Laytin” Gil

On October 20, 2026 107.7 The Bronc WRRC-FM was awarded The College Radio Station of The Year at the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Awards in New York City. The highest award in college radio.

We Were Literally The Last People WE Thought Would Win This Year!

This past year was a year full of a bunch of highs: Scream Screen X, Rider Student Top Chef, Build The Ultimate Broncwich, and The Eggscellent Egghunt, while also adding a lot of stress with new cameras, learning how to live video stream, and having our annual exec staff change every year.

After being nominated six times in the past seven years, we had partially thought we weren’t going to win anything. “This year we prepared ourselves to not even be nominated. The spring semester last year was such a trial year. Staff changes, adding new cameras (which we are still perfecting), it was a very in-between year where I thought we had better years since I’ve been here, so it was very surprising that we won.” Student General Manager Kadie Digiueseppe ‘27 said when talking about whether or not she thought we would win.

Now That We Won, What’s Next?

After winning, we all felt very good about ourselves. But then reality set in WE HAVE MORE WORK TO DO.  For most college radio stations that could be kind of scary, but not for 107.7 The Bronc.

The time is now to promote our latest achievement, “It’s a different type of pressure, from a social media perspective, I can see how many people view our stuff. We have a lot of views and that pressure can be there. We have 124k views on our account this week [alone].. But again, we’re just saying how we won the award and we’re happy about that. So it’s almost like a good kind of pressure.” Social Media Director Annmarie Ehlers ‘27 explained about the social media pressures of winning.

Hard Work Really Does Pay Off!

Not to toot our own horn, but we really are different. We live video stream every show 24/7. We host the biggest events on campus. We are always doing something. No other college radio station does all that! Grace Juarez ‘27 contributes the win to our immeasurable work ethic. “We do a variety of things. We are always doing something and we constantly promote it. Already we are working on Rider Student Top Chef less than a week after winning. I’ve never seen any other organization have a turn around so quick.”

The Families That Helped Guide Us!

We weren’t the only people excited over our HUGE Marconi Radio Award win. The families of The Bronc were also in the loop and cheering us on. Ryan Fogel ‘28 called his mom as SOON as we left the Edison Ballroom and got back on the bus to head home with the trophy in hand  and she gave us such thunderous praise! “Yeah, as soon as they said we could talk to people about our win, I called my mom. I couldn’t keep it in! And she told everyone congratulations and she told everyone else in my family about the win too! She was very proud of us and all the hard work we put in.”

Sophia Guiro ‘27 has a very great relationship with her family, and her mom has followed her journey every step of the way here at 107.7 The Bronc, “I called my mom when we got on the bus, and she really is my rock. She’s my biggest supporter and she has seen me through every crash out , every happy moment, and I’m so happy she can see that everything has been worth it.”

We’re Celebrating The Win With High Notes

Lindsay Scarola had a blast! She even spoke about how on the bus ride back, good vibes and great times  were had by singing karaoke on the bus!  “The karaoke on the bus was a very memorable experience from Tuesday night. We were high off a win, and we just felt so happy. Annmarie and I sang Big Time Rush. Clifford Russell ‘28 sang New Edition, and Owen Krompascik ‘29 even rapped Eminem. It was such a great way to bond, and we really deserved it after all the work we have done.”

So, shoutout to the staff of 107.7 The Bronc for this m onstrous win. Shoutout to the executive staff and all the people who work behind the scenes, as well as everyone who hosts a student show, the students on the news and sports teams, and even the custodians that clean the station, literally this would not be possible without each and every one of you doing your best!!
