This summer, 107.7 The Bronc is bringing you two GLORIOUS summer music promotions to listen to on our air waves! Starting this Memorial Day Weekend all the way until Labor Day, you can listen to One Hit Summer on 107.7 The Bronc WRRC-FM and to Summer of Soul on The Bronc Retro!
Program Director, Bella Soto ‘27 came up with these music events herself! Citing that it was her own taste in music that really influenced these selections, “I got to pick these myself. Soul is one of my favorite genres of music. Especially that old Motown feeling of music. I also really like a lot of one hit wonder songs. Especially with the new 2016 trend happening this year, it will be very nostalgic to listen to these songs again.”
What Artists Are Going to Be Played?
For Summer of Soul you can expect to hear all of the soul music from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. That includes your favorites from Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, and MORE! “I grew up listening to these artists! My parents used to always play them around the house, so the fact now I am able to expose an audience to them is very fulfilling, I can say. Expect to feel all the emotions this summer!”
For One Hit Summer on the The Bronc, you can expect to hear songs like “Somebody I Used to Know”, the “Whip and Nae Nae”, and “Superman”! “We should really pay respect to the artists that made these songs. Some of these songs were [from] our childhood, and these artists definitely should not be forgotten about.”
I asked Bella what songs will be included in the rotation, and shockingly, she can’t even say 100% how many tunes will be included! “These songs aren’t all from me. My team of music directors Natalie Cunningham ‘29, and Parker Meneses ‘29, also go [research] and find songs that fit these categories and put them in. We may even hear songs that I don’t even know, but that’s what’s great about music, it’s all different and we can discover something very great in it.”
Are There Going To Be More Events?
These two music events will be the only onesie we will be featuring this summer. But don’t fret! These songs will be played twice an hour, every hour, all summer sprinkled in with our scheduled award-winning programming! After the summer is over, we will go back to our fun weekend promotions, like Wannabe 80s Weekend, Women Who Rock Weekend and more!
